Job Description:
 
We currently have an opening for a DevOps / IT Systems Administrator who will be primarily responsible for a wide array of tasks from setting up server environments, deploying code, monitoring production site uptime, generating reporting, and troubleshooting. This will include being responsible for on-premises and cloud (Azure) application hosting infrastructure and security, identity and user access management, disaster recovery, and vendor relationship management. All candidates must be comfortable working directly with customers, vendors, and other team members in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment. 

We seek out talented, motivated people who like to see the results of their work, develop their own skills, and strive to grow the company.  This is a full-time position averaging 45 hours per week and is normally based at our headquarters in Crystal City (Arlington), Virginia, where employees are expected to work onsite in our office in order to help encourage teamwork and collaboration. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Cobalt currently has a temporary telework policy in place for those who would prefer to work remotely at this time.

Primary Duties

The DevOps / IT Systems Administrator role at Cobalt is responsible for a wide variety of duties. These duties can be broken down into the following main areas:
  • Physical and Virtual Server Management (using Hyper-V)
  • Windows Server Configuration and Management (Windows Updates, Windows Firewall Management, IIS configuration, and IP assignment and management)
  • Identity and User Access Management (using Active Directory, ADFS, automated password update management, and SSL)
  • Application Hosting Configuration and Monitoring (Load balancing, DNS management, network switch configuration, and uptime monitoring)
  • Azure Resource Management (Web application setup, backup and recovery setup, and configuration, ABS management, Azure AD management)
  • Dynamics 365 On-Premises and Online Installation, Configuration, and Deployment (including setup of Cobalt products in conjunction with Dynamics 365)
  • SQL Server Management (including backup and recovery, SQL Azure setup, and SQL replication)
  • Security Management (firewall configuration, security event monitoring, and penetration testing coordination with vendors)
  • Documentation Management (maintaining up to date and accurate documentation on infrastructure setup)
  • Assist with non-position-specific tasks (training new employees, etc.)
  • Promote Cobalt at industry events

 

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Five-seven years of infrastructure management experience
  • At least four years of experience with:
    • Server hardware installation and troubleshooting
    • Virtualization
    • Windows server management (including extensive use of PowerShell)
    • Infrastructure documentation management (network diagrams, checklists, how-to documents, incident reports, etc.)
  • At least three years of experience with:
    • Active Directory management
    • DNS management
    • Server uptime monitoring
    • Server disaster recovery procedures and technologies
    • Vendor relationship management (including procuring quotes, coordinating projects, etc.)
  • At least two years of experience with:
    • Automation and orchestration tools (e.g. Ansible, Puppet, etc.)
    • Load balancing
    • Azure web application deployment and maintenance
  • A desire to learn new technologies
  • Fluency in English (written and oral)
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Organizational and task management skills
  • Great personality (patient, upbeat, friendly, and professional)

 

DESIRED

  • MCSA or equivalent certification in server administration
  • MCSA or equivalent certification in cloud administration
  • MCSA or equivalent certification in security administration
  • Experience with installing and configuring Microsoft Dynamics 365 (on-premises)
  • Experience with installing and configuring Microsoft SQL Server
  • Experience with configuring and deploying SQL Azure databases
  • Experience with configuring network firewalls
  • Experience with Microsoft’s Power Platform
  • Experience presenting technical content in-person
